Lorelai Grace

This is a portrait of my youngest daughter, Lorelai. Lore is now six years old, going on thirty-five. She's a very temperamental little soul... her moods can be fierce and very quick to change, coming out of nowhere like an unexpected storm on a fair weathered day. On the bright side of things, her temper fits blow through just as quickly (usually).

I wanted to capture the wilder, lesser-tamed side of her personality... the one that doesn't hold anything back. She's a very direct and matter-of-fact, in-your-face sort of person... she's quite the handful, and I absolutely love her to bits.

All drawn and painted in Photoshop. Originally, I had a higher saturation of color, particularly in her skin tone, but after playing around with it a while, I thought the muted tones added a more... I dunno, storm-like atmosphere I guess. After all, the "lorelei" is a mythical siren of the sea. It's funny how people can resemble their namesakes. (Lorelai finds it hilarious that the lorelei's song lures sailors to watery deaths. She says she'll never do that. Although she does love to sing...)
